Where to buy fabric locally

The right fabric can make make or break your project. And when you’re sewing for yourself you want to be certain that you’re making the right choice so your creation looks as fabulous as possible!

Quality of fabric and cost per metre are all important considerations when choosing where to source your fabric from. Another thing I think is very important is great customer service; that magical ingredient which is oh so often elusive in our beautiful region 😬.

So keeping all these points in mind here’s a roundup of my favourite places to buy fabric in the Alpes Maritimes.

Torretti Tessuti, St Andre de la Roche

Saving the best for first. As the name suggests expect to find excellent quality Italian fabrics at very reasonable prices. Cottons, satins, jerseys, silks, lace, leather, plain, printed, woven, they have it ALL. And brilliant customer service thrown in, this is the place to go. It may be slightly out of the way, but it’s always worth it! Many’s the time I’ve simply described the fabric I’m looking for and they have pulled out a roll of the fabric of my dreams.

Follow them on Instagram to see pictures and videos of all their latest fabrics.

Tissus Des Ursules, RN7 Villeneuve Loubet

Very reasonably priced fabrics for all your home sewing projects. They always have a great selection of cute, printed cottons which I love for skirts and dresses. Go during the sales to get pretty, patterned fabric for as little as 4€ and 5€ per metre!

Mondial Tissus, Cap 3000

A bit pricey for my tastes so I don’t go there very often, but they always have a pretty selection. Their fabric collections change with the season, so a great place to go for fresh ideas throughout the year. I also find their haberdashery items (threads, needles, pins etc) to be the best priced locally. Sign up to their loyalty card and sometimes you’ll randomly get 10% off at the till 😉.

Toto Tissus, Rue de France, Nice.

I am proud to say that I have become a master at parking at the Palais de la Méditerranée, dashing into Toto, buying all the fabric I need, and sprinting back to my car in under an hour to avoid paying the exorbitant parking rates. 🙈 #cityparking

Don’t be put off by the seemingly small entrance, inside you’ll find an Aladdin’s cave of fabrics. Be sure not to miss their end of roll section for cheap prices on fabric remnants.

As you can imagine I’m on first name terms in many of these places 🤓 So if you’re still uncertain about where to go and what to do when you get there why not make an appointment and we’ll go fabric hunting together! We’ll take all the mystery out of it, and set you up with everything you need to complete your project from start to finish.
